DOMAINE LES AURELLES
Coteaux du Languedoc
France
Basile St. Germain Vigneron (Winery Owner)
In 1994 Basile St. Germain and Karl Mauguin started Domaine Les Aurelles near Pézenas in the Languedoc region of France. Originally from Bordeaux, Basile St. Germain had worked with Haut Brion and Mauguin worked at Château Latour. They spent two years searching for particularly good parcels of land planted in local grape varietals and found what they liked just north of Pézenas. There the gravely rough soils, composed of compressed shellfish, are estimated to be 125 million years old.
Mauguin left the winery shortly after and now the winery is owned an operated by Basile St. Germain and his wife Caroline. As vineyard manager and vigneron, Basile cultivates using organic viticultural techniques. He uses natural farming methods rather than employing fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides. The low yielding crop practice ensures higher quality grapes and, in the end, more focused, developed, and elegantly intense wines.

Old vine Carignan and Grenache.
The Solen has a silky texture, with supple, elegant character in a rounder
style. This wine sees no wood. The old vine Carignan lends to the wine’s
depth and its hints of spice with ripe, juicy raspberries. The Grenache
brings the elegance and the result is a lovely wine with a nice, long finish.
