OLABISI Ted Osborne, Winemaker (Winery Co-owner) Husband-wife team Kim Wedlake and Ted Osborne started Olabisi Wines in 2002. Kim brought them to the Napa Valley (California) about 13 years ago--she to designwine labels and he to pursue winemaking. Possessing only his English degree and no formal training Ted set out to gain his winemaking knowledge as an apprentice first. From 1995 to 2002, Ted worked for Cakebread Cellars in Napa, Passing Clouds in Australia, Rupert & Rothschild in South Africa, Chateau du Seuil in Bordeaux, and Storybook Mountain Winery in Napa. By now it seemed time to focus that experience on their own wines. Since then, they've dedicated themselves to making small- production expressive wines from diamond-in-the-rough vineyards. Ted and Kim currently live in Calistoga with their two young children. Olabisi means "joy multiplied" in Nigerian.
We met Ted (before the press really began making many comments) and brought his wines to NC. We're glad we did and we're glad that his talents and attention to handcrafted winemaking are being recognized.
-James Laube, Wine Spectator Magazine-“..when you’re drinking wines with friends you can pull out a bottle of Olabisi and tell them the story about this hot new winery and this hot little appellation in Solano County….
They are ripe, rich wines that are remarkably elegant and graceful. Osborne…shows a deft hand for crafting wines of subtlety and finesse.”
-Courtney Cochran, author of Hip Tastes: The Fresh Guide To Wine“Osborne…uses only wild yeast fermentations in crafting his…soulful Burgundian-style Chardonnays”
